DATA DELETION POLICY

Introduction

At ZipLove, we respect your right to control your personal information. This Data Deletion Policy explains how you can request deletion of your account and personal data from our Service.

This policy is part of our commitment to privacy and compliance with Apple App Store requirements and applicable data protection laws.

1. Your Right to Delete Your Data

You have the right to request deletion of your ZipLove account and all associated personal data at any time, for any reason.

We will delete your data immediately upon your request.

2. How to Request Account Deletion

Option 1: Delete Through the App (Recommended)

For immediate deletion:

  1. Open the ZipLove app
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Scroll down and tap "Account Settings"
  4. Select "Delete Account"
  5. Read the warning about permanent deletion
  6. Tap "Confirm Delete Account"
  7. Enter your password to verify
  8. Your account will be deleted immediately

Option 2: Email Request

If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion via email:

  1. Send an email to: info@ziplove.org
  2. Subject line: "Account Deletion Request"
  3. Include in your email:
    • The email address associated with your account
    • Your full name
    • Your phone number (for verification)
    • A statement: "I request deletion of my ZipLove account and all associated data"

We will verify your identity and process your request within 3 business days

3. What Data Will Be Deleted

When you delete your account, the following information is permanently deleted immediately:

3.1 Profile Information

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • ZIP code
  • Profile photos
  • Bio/description
  • Profile preferences and settings

3.2 Activity Data

  • Match history
  • Messages sent and received
  • Likes and interactions
  • Profile views
  • App usage data
  • Device information

3.3 Account Data

  • Login credentials
  • Authentication tokens
  • Account status and history

3.4 SMS Data

  • Phone number
  • SMS opt-in consent status
  • SMS delivery logs (deleted from our systems)

Note: SMS messages are sent via Telnyx from 805-329-7461. Telnyx may retain SMS delivery metadata (not message content) per their data retention policy. To delete data from Telnyx, contact them at: https://telnyx.com/privacy

Your account and all associated data are deleted immediately and cannot be recovered.

4. What Data May Be Retained

In certain limited circumstances, we may retain minimal information as required by law:

4.1 Legal and Financial Records

We may retain the following for legal, tax, or accounting purposes:

  • Transaction records (subscription payments, event purchases) for 7 years (required by tax law)
  • Records of Terms of Service violations or bans (to prevent re-registration)
  • Information required for ongoing legal matters or investigations

These records are:

  • Stored securely
  • Not visible to other users
  • Not used for any purpose other than legal compliance
  • Deleted when no longer required by law

4.2 Anonymized Analytics Data

We may retain anonymized, aggregated usage statistics that cannot identify you personally. For example:

  • "X users signed up in January 2025"
  • "Users spent an average of Y minutes in the app"

This data is completely anonymous and cannot be linked back to you.

4.3 Backup Systems

Data may remain in backup systems for up to 30 days after deletion before being permanently purged. However:

  • This data is not accessible or restorable
  • It is automatically deleted during the next backup cycle
  • It cannot be used for any purpose

5. Effect of Account Deletion

5.1 Immediate Effects

When you delete your account:

  • ✓ You will be immediately logged out
  • ✓ Your profile will no longer be visible to other users
  • ✓ Other users will not be able to message you
  • ✓ All your messages to other users will be deleted
  • ✓ All your photos will be permanently deleted
  • ✓ You will stop receiving notifications, emails, and SMS messages
  • ✓ Your SMS opt-in status will be deleted

5.2 No Account Recovery

Account deletion is permanent and irreversible.

  • You cannot recover your account
  • You cannot recover your photos, messages, or matches
  • You cannot retrieve any data after deletion

5.3 Re-Registration

If you want to use ZipLove again after deletion:

  • You must create a new account from scratch
  • Your previous data will not be restored
  • You will need to verify your phone number again
  • You will need to opt in to SMS notifications again (if desired)

6. Alternative to Deletion: Deactivation

If you're not sure about permanently deleting your account, you can temporarily deactivate instead:

To Deactivate:

  1. Go to Settings > Account Settings
  2. Select "Deactivate Account"
  3. Your profile is hidden but data is not deleted
  4. You can reactivate anytime by logging back in

Deactivation:

  • Hides your profile from other users
  • Stops notifications (push, email, and SMS)
  • Preserves your data for reactivation
  • Can be reversed anytime

7. Data Deletion for Minors

If we discover that a user is under 18 years old, we will:

  • Immediately delete their account
  • Permanently delete all associated data
  • Block the email/phone number from re-registration

If you believe a minor has created an account, please report it immediately to info@ziplove.org.

8. Third-Party Services

When you delete your ZipLove account, we delete all data in our control. However:

8.1 Payment Processors

  • Apple App Store / Google Play Store: May retain transaction records per their policies
  • Square: May retain payment records for fraud prevention and legal compliance
  • RevenueCat: Subscription data is deleted from their systems

To delete data from these services, you must contact them directly:

8.2 Communication Services

  • Telnyx (SMS): SMS delivery logs may be retained per their data retention policy. SMS messages are sent from 805-329-7461 for notification purposes only.
  • Resend (Email): Email delivery logs may be retained per their data retention policy
  • Firebase (Push Notifications): Device tokens may be retained per their data retention policy

These services do not store the content of your messages, only delivery metadata.

10. Verification and Security

To protect your account from unauthorized deletion:

  • In-app deletion requires your password
  • Email requests require identity verification
  • We may ask security questions to confirm your identity
  • We will send a confirmation email after deletion is complete

We will never delete your account without proper verification.

11. Data Subject Rights (Additional Rights)

In addition to deletion, you have the following rights regarding your data:

11.1 Right to Access

Request a copy of all data we have about you.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  • Right to Know: What data we collect and how it's used
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion (as described above)
  • Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate for exercising your rights
